As CrossFit Moonee Valley’s head coach, Drew is well immersed in writing, implementing and training to his own programs/WOD’s (workouts of the day). He practices what he preaches, and has only one rule in his gym, often repeated to clients coming close to dropping: “NEVER, EVER, GIVE UP!”

Drew’s athletic background as a child was as a talented long distance runner, but his scope moved to other arena’s at the tender age of thirteen years when his Dad got him into boxing. A childhood love of laughing hysterically at 80’s martial arts films somehow then got him from getting clubbed around the ears in the backyard gym and into a noted karate dojo – here literally finding his feet; winning numerous State and National titles as both a junior and adult competitor, and also fighting internationally in Japan.

Drew took a break from martial arts in his early twenties, hungry for another sport, and took up Rock Climbing. It was here that he became incredibly familiar with strength to weight ratio training, and climbed extensively all over the world.

But the martial part of Drew still burned bright, and fascinated by the advent of the UFC and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he could not help but be drawn to grappling. Within a year of taking up the sport he had won and placed highly in several tournaments, and in the following year had added a Pan Pacific title to his already impressive list of athletic accomplishments.

A strength and conditioning realist, who has worked in many areas of the fitness industry (most notably building a highly successful MMA facility up from scratch, but now moving on for bigger and better things), Drew is a huge advocate of the ‘you reap what you sow’ approach when it comes to exercise and life in general. He is known for his dead-honest and genuinely friendly approach to fitness. Well versed in the art of ‘tough love’ when it comes to clients, he has proven himself time and time again as a standout coach and compassionate, sincere motivator who will stop at nothing to help you smash any goals you set for yourself.

His love of CrossFit and first-hand knowledge of what it takes to win high level competition in past sporting endeavours adds a very favorable element to the box.

Drew’s job – which he takes exceptionally seriously – is to take you to new levels of fitness, while keeping you safe and informed. CrossFit is his life, and his athletes are his lifeblood. Excellence in instruction is what he strives for daily, with a few laughs thrown in for good measure. You are always in good hands here.
